Ghazal 28 Desire is like chess and you are its pawn willing to eat and drink and obliterate The barmaid in her beauty unravels understanding music is drowning good sense and awareness At once at night in each corner of the tavern the blossoms of beauty fall from the sun But come in the morning this place of desire when perfume has faded to the sun-covered floor Burnt in grief from the night’s broken lightness a candle stands flameless throughout the days |
