Ghazal 28

Desire is like chess and you are its pawn
willing to eat and drink and obliterate

The barmaid in her beauty unravels understanding
music is drowning good sense and awareness

At once at night in each corner of the tavern
the blossoms of beauty fall from the sun

But come in the morning this place of desire
when perfume has faded to the sun-covered floor

Burnt in grief from the night’s broken lightness
a candle stands flameless throughout the days
